ALRIGHT, BUT WHAT IS RAMA LAMA THEN?

We could brag a bit and tell you that we won Indie Label of The Year at the Swedish Indie Awards Manifest in 2022, or let Ja Ja Ja Music sum it up for us as they once so nicely did: ”If you’re looking for indie-pop in Stockholm, you go to Rama Lama Records. The label is notable for the solid stylistic niche they’ve cut out for themselves, as well as how tight-a-scene they’ve formed”. Or to put it in our own words…

Rama Lama Records is a Stockholm-based label that was founded by us (Axel & Sixten) back in 2016. We were 20 years old and had for the last couple of years broadcasted and written about music with the will to give good indie music a platform. Axel’s dad offered us to start up a small little label within his aquarium company, we had no idea how but we knew we wanted to figure it out.

So what happened next? We signed what we thought were two of the best new acts on the Stockholm scene, started planning parties, sold out our two first parties, got press early on from some of our favorite blogs and magazines. The label fam grew and we finally had to start our own company and move out of the basement where our vinyl and merch shared the space with countless guppies and goldfishes. Since then, we've continued to release music we love by the talented people we love, and we don't plan to stop anytime soon.

Besides putting out great music we’ve since the start been something of a party planning committee, with label nights regularly thrown in Sweden, but also in London and Copenhagen. It has always been a key part of our idea to create a space both for bands and fans to find new music. We’re also the initiative takers and organizers of independent label festival and market Fools Gold, read more here. 

Every year for our birthday we throw a party out on an island in the beautiful Stockholm archipelago with ticket-buyers coming in by boat to see our bands play live dangerously close to the water, play volleyball, barbecue and just hang out. We think that day is what sums up the heart of Rama Lama the best - spontaneity, good times and good music.
