It’s true - this summer we’ve somehow been around for five years. To celebrate, we’re throwing parties both on a secret island in Stockholm’s archipelago and at Sweden’s best venue: Plan B - Malmö.

We’ve also put together a little collection of some of our favourite tracks throughout the years, which is out both digitally and on digipack CD, check them out below. Besides that, we have in true Rama Lama fashion made way too much merch, including swimwear, towels, tee shirts and sweatshirts, which will be available at the parties. Can’t go? Check out the sale and mystery box. Remaining merch will be available at the store after the parties

Scroll down for some sentimental thoughts & highlights from each year.

THANKS TO…
…everyone that in some way has been a part of Rama Lama Records. For us, that means everyone that has come out to a show, bought some stuff, listened to a song, recommended a song to a fellow music fan, partners and venues who believed in us, all our friends and loved ones (a special shout-out to Olivia & Isabelle) who have helped out so much, and of course all the bands and people that we’ve had the honour to work with and get to know over the last years. We don’t plan to stop providing good times & good music anytime soon and we hope you’re with us on the ride.

Thanks,
Axel & Sixten

 HOW IT STARTED…
If you’re good at maths, you’ve probably figured out that we started back in 2016. We were 20 years old and had for the last couple of years broadcasted and written about music with the ambition to give good indie music a platform. Axel’s dad offered us to start up a small, little label within his aquarium company. We had no idea how to run a label, but we knew we wanted to figure it out.

So what happened next? We signed what we thought were two of the best new acts (shout-out to Rama Lama OGs Steve Buscemi’s Dreamy Eyes & Melby) on the Stockholm scene, started planning parties and sold out our first two ones which got us press early on from some of our favourite blogs and magazines.

During the following year, the label fam grew, we put on more and more shows (some at weirder places than others…) and we finally had to start our own company and move out of the basement where our vinyl and merch shared the space with countless guppies and goldfish. Since then, we've continued to release music we love by the talented people we love, and we don't plan on stopping anytime soon.

In 2016-2017 we released good music by… Melby, Steve Buscemi’s Dreamy Eyes, Cat Princess and Delsbo Beach Club.

2018.jpg

In retrospect, 2018 was the year we started taking small steps outside of our beloved Stockholm City.

Malmö heroes Kluster became both the first act from another city to sign and the first to release a full-length. And what a record - the fantastic ‘civic’ never gets old. Kluster’s release party - where they were supported by a little orchestra standing on pallets at Plan B’s, then, very tiny stage - is still one of our most special memories and concert experiences over-all. In 2021, Malmö feels so much like our second home that the local record store Rundgång even has branded us as a “Malmö / Stockholm label”. But it was Kluster who opened the door to the sweet falafel paradise that is Malmö.

Talking about shows, we flew over to London where the buzzing Steve Buscemi’s Dreamy Eyes and Cat Princess packed up Sebright Arms, which was somewhat of a dream come true for all of us. Melby started playing Germany quite a lot and it felt like our little kids were growing up so fast.

At home in Stockholm, alongside our regular shows, we tried doing some semi-illegal parties at “secret venues”. The saviours of pop/rock New Feelings sold out their release party in Alvik and even though we lost a shit ton of money on the Midsommargården Christmas party, we had a lot of fun. And fun is maybe the word that sums up our 2018 the best.

In 2018 we released good music by… Cat Princess, Chez Ali, Delsbo Beach Club, Kluster B (then just Kluster), Melby and New Feelings.

2019.jpg

In 2019, it felt like we were starting to find our place in all of this. The birthday and Christmas parties were now traditions, we released debut albums from long-time signees Melby and Cat Princess, our bands started playing fancy showcase festivals and “Rama Lama” had kinda stuck with a relatively small but lovely, and slow and steady growing crowd.

Combining debut albums from the old dogs with first releases from the completely new acts we believed in made us feel like “a label”. The idea from the start has been to give good music a platform, to make a difference and create something people can discover music through, and by 2019 it felt like we were beginning to reach that level.

In 2019 we released good music by… Cat Princess, Delsbo Beach Club, Guds Pengar, Julia Rakel, Kluster B, Lilla Parasit, Melby and Steve Buscemi’s Dreamy Eyes.

2020.jpg

We had big plans for 2020, but 2020 didn’t care much about that. Instead, it was a year packed with postponements, cancellations, and boredom. Nevertheless, we were proud to release a lot of good music both from “old” and new acts including our very first international act Kindsight and artists such as Lilla Parasit, Loaver, Gula Blend and Guds Pengar who all expanded the “sound” in an interesting way.

Somehow, we managed to do some parties (live streaming was a fun thing to try out, but it doesn’t belong in the “good times” we’re talking about). Even though it was the rainiest day of the summer, our fourth birthday party (held between the Swedish semi-lockdowns) was really special. It became very obvious that the togetherness music creates had been so missed, and why it stands out as a reason as to why we do this.

In the beginning of the pandemic, we told ourselves that “if we get through this, we’ll come out stronger on the other side.” It’s too early to say if that’s true, but five years on it feels like we’re in a good place. We’re working with music and people we love, have some really exciting things planned and we can’t wait to get back to doing more shows.

Thanks for these first five years and we hope you come along for the next ones. This is still only the beginning.

In 2020 we released good music by… Cat Princess, Chez Ali, Guds Pengar, Gula Blend, Kindsight, Kluster B, Lilla Parasit, Loaver, Melby and Steve Buscemi’s Dreamy Eyes.
